Hello everyone,

this Saturday 12th December is the annual Walk Against Warming. As well as being held to send a message to delegates at Copenhagen, this rally comes at a critical time in Australian politics. When parliament resumes in February, the ETS looks once again be defeated. At this point, our politicians will have to make crucial decisions about how they respond to climate change and they could go any way. Over the next couple of months, they will be trying to gauge the will of the Australian electorate and the skeptics will be trying very hard to sway people in their direction. If this happens, we may lose the best opportunity we have to do something significant about climate change.

A significant turn out this Saturday could make a real difference to the Australian response to climate change. Alternatively, a weak turn out could make just as big a difference in the other direction. Most significant rallies in recent years in Australia have had 30-40,000 participants, including the first Walk Against Warming. Any fewer than this, will send a message to our politicians that Australians care less about this issue than they used to and could do real damage to our chance to do anything about climate change in time.

If you are even remotely concerned about climate change, please come to the rally – 12pm this Saturday 12th December, State Library. Please tell everybody you know and urge them to come. And consider carrying a home made placard urging the government to TALK TO THE GREENS! (i’m not a member of the greens, just think this is the message we need to send the government)

Those in other states, can find their walk on the following website: http://www.walkagainstwarming.org/. Anyone living in the west, can meet up with other westies at Footscray station at 11 to either ride or train in. We are wearing red and/or blue.

And of course, please pass this on to anyone and everyone you know,
