Basket Weaving – Second Workshop

Date: 13th April 2011
Time: 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Address: Dancing Dog Cafe, 42a Albert Street Footscray on the corner of Raleigh in side the old ANA building.
Cost: $20 to POW members – $25 to non members

A handout and all material will be supplied
Materials:– Raffia is a popular and easy material to use bought from the florist
– Local Grasses that can be found in any parkland or near a river/creek, however it does depend on the location. I was using Indigenous grass along the Merri Creek for my project.
– Wool and other clothing materials are good. second hand. Very accessable in one’s own private home.
– A particular type of dried grass
– Sewing Needles
(a lot of these materials ar very easy to access)

Preserter’s Personal Intention:
To share what I know and how sacred basket weaving is to me and why.
Share books, various techniques, patterning, potential shapes and sacred symbols that can be achieved with weaving.
Later down the track I would like to connect with indigenous women to share their skills and stories
